Double Yellow Line pits a formalistic mode against a narrative one across a central axis. The first section of the film explores the formal and symbolic qualities of a double yellow line through a set of hypnotic and seemingly impenetrable yellow lines that extend through time and space.
The narrative section of the film uses the vocabulary of an American Western to examine different subjects relevant to the contemporary experience in the American West. These issues are presented through subverted narrative structure that portrays an aesthetic of disconnectedness.
